What is Molecular Microbiology?

Molecular microbiology identifies microorganisms including bacteria, fungi, and viruses through DNA detection. This technique is very sensitive and rapid compared to traditional microbiology procedures, creating a powerful diagnostic tool for physicians.

Our profile delivers a snapshot of a patient’s vaginal micro-environment covering 34 organisms. Trained scientists utilize cutting-edge technology to quantify pathogenic and non-pathogenic bacterial species, as well as detection of other disease associated organisms within the vaginal microbiome. This information is processed in a proprietary algorithm to provide physicians with a differential diagnosis and suggested course of treatment, allowing them to Prescribe with Confidence®.

Our MDx Advantage® Women’s Health Profile plus STI features:

• Rapid turnaround time compared to tradition microbiology techniques

• Differential diagnosis to guide treatment options

• Easy to read reports delivered via EMR integration, web portal, or fax

Benefits to Advanced Diagnostic Testing

Traditional diagnostic testing for women’s health can be subjective resulting in misdiagnosis. The clinical symptoms of vaginitis are variable, further complicating diagnosis using traditional methods and causing a high rate of misdiagnosis. In addition, traditional tests can be intrusive, time consuming, and they can’t determine if mixed infections are present.

Advanced diagnostic testing detects multiple microorganisms from a single sample collection. The causes of vaginitis symptoms, including mixed infections, are quickly and accurately diagnosed. Aeon’s MDx Advantage® Women’s Health Profile provides a snapshot of vaginal microorganisms, including beneficial bacteria, based on their unique DNA.
